Mycoplasma hyorhinis causes mainly fibrinous polyserositis, pneumonia and arthritis in pigs. Infected pigs showed growth retardation and more susceptible to other pathogens leading to a great economic loss in swine industry. Vaccination is the most effective strategy to control and prevent M. hyorhinis infection. The objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of a M. hyorhinis subunit vaccine in a commercial pig farm in Taiwan. It was indicated that the vaccine is safe after 1 dose injection in pigs. After a single dose vaccination, immunized pigs showed an improvement in average body weight gain and serological conversion, indicating the vaccine is effective in the field. Collectively, this study indicated a potential M. hyorhinis subunit vaccine prototype to improve pig growth performance in the field.
